Tourist Package

This assignment was very useful for me. not only did I get to learn how to use illustrator, I am very comfortable and familiar with it. on top of learning illustrator, I learned how to use sketchup. I find sketchup to be a very simple and fun program to use that will help me in the future. Here is my poster that I made for my tourists package:

Interview With Dean MacCannel Response

I found it interesting about how he talks about how we use our leisure time to identify ourselves. I find it very relatable when he talks about how we put more work into our leisure time than into our actual work. I also found it interesting about how China town was decorated for a film and that is why it looks the way it does now.

star tours

This is a really rough idea and I don't know how long I am going to stick with it. But I think I want to use google sky and do some sort of tour of different constellations and nebulae. My poster will have an alien on it and I'll 3D print an alien fetus. This is why I don;t really want to stick with this idea. It's too easy too silly too generic. I'll come up with something better hopefully.

As We May Think

This article was pretty eye opening to me when explained. At first it was difficult for me to comprehend the article but then I realize that heidecker breaks down technology into many different factions. What stood out to me the most was the way humans enframe everything. We constantly try to put an order to things in our day to day live in the most obvious or most subconscious ways. This idea made perfect sense because on a deep psychological way, we are always trying to control chaos. To us, nature is chaos. But when I think about it, is nature really all that chaotic. In fact, sometimes I feel there is more order to nature than to human behavior. But again I feel that humans are nature. Therefore there is order in everything that happens. I think it is important for us to identify how we are always trying to have control. We should not try so hard to control nature but we should instead just accept that we are nature.

Virtual Intervention

My project makes use of public space by highlighting mundane objects. I expose these objects by using artist's frames to raise questions on how should we view art. Why do people tend to revere things labeled as "art" no matter how simple? Why do we take "art" so seriously? How do we know if artists take their "art" seriously? how do we know if any thought is put into a work of "art"? What draws the line between something normal and something that is "art"?

My chance Operation is an audio experiment, meant to combine the songs of birds with the songs of people.

Step 1: Go to the website mapcrunch.com
Step 2: Click "go!"to visit a random location on the planet.
Step 3: In the lower right-hand corner look at the country
Step 4: Find out this country's national bird and national anthem
Step 5: Go on youtube and type "(insert bird here) bird call"
Step 6: Go on youtube and type "(insert country) national anthem"
Step 7: Go on swigview.com
Step 8: Copy and paste the links of the national anthem and the bird call into their own URL rows.
Step 9: repeat steps 1 through 8 with three more countries
Step 10: With the four anthems and four bird calls, click "view videos"
Step 11: Press play on each youtube window
